3/29/2019 0 Comments Create a Playlist for your StoryHave you ever considered that stories can have playlists?
Maybe you have been reading a book and a particular song pops into your head, or you relate the lyrics of a certain song to a novel that you just read. This type of artistic fusion helps us to contemplate the essence of the story, as well as see it in a different light. I am proposing that you create a playlist for your current story. It doesn't have to be long. Even five songs that encapsulate your story's message, themes, or characters can be quite a fun and rewarding exercise. If one of your characters is highly punk or rock, for example, consider adding a song that encompasses that particular character's emotions. If the message of your story is "the searching underdogs," then consider adding that P!NK song "What About Us" to the mix. There are many different ways to approach this exercise! You can reread your writing and simply think of songs. Another route would be choosing popular songs from the radio and Googling their lyrics to see if they relate to your story. You can also make the playlist correspond to different chapters chronologically, or just create a playlist that embodies your story as a whole. I recommend using Spotify to search for songs and then create your playlist. Spotify also allows you to share your playlist with others! If you do complete this exercise, I would love to see your playlist and/or story! Just E-mail me at [email protected] Thanks & Happy Creating! Chels

I have this journal full of prompts for the "creative woman" and one of the prompts was to choose a tangible object to represent your creative entity. The prompt instructed me to choose a token that I could touch and engage with lovingly daily, as this would help me to love my personal creativity.
I am now inspired to choose an object or symbol to represent one of the stories that I am currently working on. I feel that doing this will help me to form a true purpose for the story, as well as keep the theme grounded as I physically relate to the object or symbol. This will also allow me to form a sort of relational, loving bond with my creative work. I think I will choose a tube of lipstick for my second short story in the series "She Kills Killers." Why a tube of lipstick to represent a story about LGBTQ+ bounty hunters that go to Russia? Well, lipstick (especially red lipstick) is quite bold in essence, to me. It takes guts to rock a red lip, and I believe this story is quite gutsy in its messages and plot points. I also chose the tube of red lipstick because it has a romantic connotation, and She Kills Killers is about romance between different people at its core. So which object or symbol will you choose for your current writing project or story? And how will that choice impact how you see your project or story? Please let me know if you do partake in this small exercise, as I would love to hear how this can help you connect to your project or story in a unique way! Thanks for reading & happy writing!
